In less than one week, voters across York County and throughout South Carolina will begin casting their ballots. In essence, Election Day is just a week away.
I hope all of you take the opportunity to vote early, bank your voters, and avoid any complications from waiting until the last minute. Times and locations (Fort Mill, Rock Hill, and York) are fully detailed below. After last year’s new voting law, any registered voter can vote early with no excuses or issues.
Voting is the minimum expectation of any member of the York County Democratic Party. With just three weeks until the victors have been named and the die gets cast for the next two, four, or six years, please take a moment to reflect. Ask yourself: what did I do to help Democrats get elected in 2022?
- Did I make a donation to the South Carolina candidate(s) of my choice?
- Did I make phone calls or knock doors on behalf of a candidate whose race will make a difference to thousands or millions of people?
- Did I remind friends and family members to vote?
- Did I do any of that? Or none of it?
If the answer is none of it — and by all indications, if that’s you, you’re not alone — there is time to help. Lots of blame gets passed around after Democrats lose elections. Usually, the ones pointing the most fingers didn’t lift one to help.
Find out what you can do. Contact information for every local and statewide campaign is listed in this and every newsletter we sent out. If you can’t knock doors (and most of you can), ask the campaign for a list of folks to call. They’ll be happy to give you one. If you’re unwilling to contact voters you don’t know, please commit to reaching out to the ones you do.
Within recent memory, there have been multiple elections in this state decided by one single vote (including a recent race for mayor of Clover). Please don’t wonder what a difference an hour of your time can accomplish.
On November 6, Joe Cunningham will be in Rock Hill for a rally. If you can spare the time to have a beer with the next governor and celebrate his campaign, you can spare the time to help a county council or state house candidate win too.
